FORENSIC PSYCHIATRY SERVICE

The forensic psychiatric service of this hospital has a long and distinguished tradition.
Evolving in the early 60’s, it has blossomed with the institution carving a niche for
itself in this sub-specialty area. lt provides admission facilities for referrals from the
courts, it looks after the mentally abnormal offenders in the Abeokuta Prison and
offers liaison services for courts in the area of provision of expert testimonies and
psychiatric reports. The hospital regularly deploys a trained psychiatric nurse to the
Abeokuta Prison to work full time.
the area of training. postgraduate resident doctors from the hospital as well as
other institutions are oftered subs pecialty training in this unit.
