MEDICAL RECORDS DEPARTMENT

Brief History

In Aro, Medical Records keeping is as old as the hospital. The Health Records

Department was formaly established in 1981 with the appointment of the first Chief

Medical Records Officer for the hospital in the person of Mr. F.A. Fakolujo. He re-organized the department introducing up to various functional sections such as,

Registration, Appointments, Admissions and Discharges, coding (i.e. disease classification) and statistics.

Current Services Provided

The Medical Records Department ensures the safe custody of patients’ records and accounts, it ensures that the records of patients are inaccessible to unauthorized persons but available for those involved in treatment of the patients. It also made available for authorized research, teaching and for medico legal and statistical purposes.
