THE CRECHE

The crèche was established by the management of the hospital through the Staff
Welfare Committee on the 3rd August 1998. The pioneering children numbered up
to twenty-five (25) and four (4) ward attendants were re-deployed to take care of
them. There were two visiting nurses and one doctor. The crèche is currently under
the supervision of the Staff Welfare Committee chaired by Mrs. E. M. Adenuga of the
Social Welfare Department.
The aim of establishing the crèche among other things was to ensure that nursing
mothers have access to their babies during office hours so as to encourage the “baby
friendly’ programme.
At present, the creche is well furnished with ten (10) beds, ten (10) baby cots, good
number of bed sheets and toys for the children.
In 1999, a retired matron, Mrs Amusan, was appointed on contract to take adequate
care of the children. Presently there are seven members of staf.
The age of registration is 40 days and above while children graduate at 2 years to
various nursery schools.
he services rendered include monitoring of babies in terms of health, feeding and
general cleanliness.
